Performance by Ieva Vīksne and Waterflower (aka Sabine Moore, https://www.instagram.com/wat3rfl0wer) in Riga White night event at the Botanical garden in short film festival 2ANNAS event (https://2annas.lv/lv) 07.09.24
In the performance "NeuroCucumber Symbiosis: a synthesis of technology and brainwaves", artists Ieva Viksne and Waterflower (aka Sabine Moore) combined biology, technology and human minds in an unforgettable event. Eve conducted research on the Botanic Garden's cucumber breeding and plants, while Waterflower created music in a live performance, collaborating with cucumber flowers and Botanic Garden plants to create an aural and visual symbiosis.
"This was the first time that Ieva Viksnis and I created a performance together. In it, I measured the electromagnetic field of cucumbers and made music out of these waves. Different cucumbers produced different sounds and I used 7 different experimental tools to convey this music to the audience. In parallel, Eve created visualisations with her brainwaves, having previously researched information about cucumbers and the history of the Cucumber House at the Botanical Gardens. This was a unique performance that could only be witnessed in person," says Waterflower's Sabine Moore.
Ieva Viksne, co-creator of the performance: "The cucumber may seem like an everyday vegetable, but our relationship with the cultivated cucumber goes back thousands of years. I found it fascinating to look into this history and encounter the cucumber through the prism of art. In the performance we created a collaboration between the form of the cucumber and the available factual information about it."
The event took place on 7 September 2024, as part of the White Night programme of the Contemporary Culture Forum and was supported by the Riga City Council.
